Once again, the Buffs and Coach Prime, Deion Sanders, have shown that sometimes, even faith has its limits. The Colorado Buffaloes pulled off four incredible road game victories—perhaps the most impressive streak in Buffs history. But then came the Jayhawks upset. The Kansas Jayhawks have turned into playoff dream-breakers for many, and unfortunately, Deion Sanders and his team were caught right in the middle of their storm. While fans dreamt of seeing Colorado in the playoffs, we’ll have to settle for a Bowl game appearance. However, let’s not forget the most important aspect: 2024 has been the Buffs’ year of redemption. From 4-8 last season to an impressive 8-3, Colorado is still carving out its own destiny.
Much like every other fairy tale, this one also comes with goodbyes. Deion Sanders recently took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message: “This is your last call. So if I were you, I would give it everything I got.” Coach Prime knows how crucial this year has been. Not only was it a chance for the players to prove themselves, but it also marked the last time they wore the iconic black and gold—the colors of Colorado. Seniors like Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, along with others, are preparing to leave. They have to make these final few games count because, after the Bowl season, the 2025 NFL Draft awaits. This is the end of an era, but it’s also the beginning of something even bigger.
As for where everyone will land, it’s still up in the air. Travis Hunter has been linked to the Seahawks or Raiders—but the Giants might just be the perfect fit for him. And let’s not forget his ambitions of playing both offense and defense in the NFL. Some people might call it impossible, but we all know that Deion’s wonder kid might just be the one to make it happen.
When it comes to Shedeur Sanders, his draft pick is anyone’s guess. ESPN’s Mel Kiper placed him as QB1, and it’s easy to see why. Shedeur almost single-handedly turned the tide against Baylor and faced down the Kansas Wildcats like a true leader. The Dallas Cowboys could be the best landing spot for him, especially with Jerry Jones eyeing a future beyond Dak Prescott. Shedeur could be the key to revitalizing the Cowboys and rewriting their history. Yet, amidst all this, we have to ask: what about Coach Prime? With his star players leaving, who will be the next big name in Colorado Buffs football?
Deion Sanders’ Next Big Project
Getting the best quarterback of the 2025 class was never going to be easy. USC had their eyes on him, Auburn was in the mix, and even Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs joined the chase. Could Deion Sanders pull it off again? Imagine the surprise when Julian Lewis dropped USC, and ESPN broke the news that Juju was heading to Colorado. “Five-star QB and the No. 2 recruit in the 2025 ESPN 300, Julian Lewis, committed to Colorado on @PatMcAfeeShow,” ESPN announced.
This is huge. Lewis is set to be for the Buffs what Shedeur Sanders was—the centerpiece of the team’s next chapter. Starting 2025 with Lewis leading the offense could be exactly what Colorado needs to top even this year’s success. With a transformed defense and offense, next season could witness one of the most impressive displays in Colorado Buffs history, with Coach Prime once again at the helm, ready to create magic.
